Teaching About President Obama

PBS's Frontline has a special feature on President Barack Obama including teacher resources on their site (http://tinyurl.com/9abkou).

Here are four excerpts from it:

Cool Middle East Map Game

This is a great interactive map game for teaching about the Middle East, North Africa or Central Asia. Students drag and drop the names of the countries to their location on the map. It's fun - I played it!

If you click http://www.rethinkingschools.org/just_fun/index.shtml you can find a link to the full-sized online map puzzle and also find PDFs of the map to use in class as handouts.

Online Crossword Puzzle is UP!!

A sample of our new online FOCUS on the NEWS crossword puzzle is up. Try your hand at remembering the news from before the elections - the sample is from the first week of the school year, September 4, 2008.

FOCUS on the NEWS Online Quiz Sample Available

It's finally here! After some in-house testing, we're rolling out a beta version of the FOCUS on the NEWS Online Quiz. A Sample Online Quiz is now available here on the site. The questions are from the first issue of the year, September 4, 2008. Feel free to take a moment to test what you remember from before the elections.

We will work on getting a weekly version out to subscribers - though I'm not sure what day of the week it will be going out. More on that in January.

The online quiz version of FOCUS on the NEWS is ideal for home-school students who want to experience the fun of the weekly quiz, but don't have anyone against whom to compete in a classroom environment. It's also helpful for students who compete in national current events competitions who want to supplement the materials their coach may provide.
